Was only able to watch ip man 4 recently and luckily it was still in cinemas. One thing that seemed odd was how the antaognists were praising Japanese Karate as awesome while chinese kung fu as weak, while shitting on Asians in general using slurs. It relates because earlier in the film, wan zhang hua says that foreigners should not be taught kung fu cos they don't appreciate it and will use it against them using the story of the wolf eating it's owner as an analogy. Ip man also had a similar sentiment in the first movie, where he refused to teach the imperial japanese kung fu because he said martial arts is not just about fighting but benevolence and the Japanese general turned the art into violence and oppression so they didn't deserve it. so in ip man 4, the american antagonist probably learnt karate from japanese after ww2/ip man 1 in the movie timeline, and combined it with their anti-asian racism to make it about white supremacy which is far from the spirit of martial arts. not sure if the writers did it on purpose but thought it was an interesting detail. maybe they could have called it american kickboxing to fit the American/white dominance theme better or have a character call them out on abusing japanese culture.
